Tobago Hotels & Resorts
A wide variety of hotels and resorts are available for your vacation on Tobago. They come in all shapes and sizes to suite every taste and budget. Arnos Vale Hotel - 29 room Hotel
The Arnos Vale Hotel is a 29-room beachside hotel set in stunning grounds and offering wonderful bird-watching and snorkelling.
I last stayed at the Arnos Vale Hotel in 1988. Even then it was in need of some TLC. It hasn't kept pace with the development of tourism on Tobago and poor management plus lack of investment has made the hotel the biggest 'lost opportunity' on the island. Although nominally rated as a 3-star property, many would say that this hotel no longer deserves a star rating.
The Arnos Vale boast the best hotel location on the island. The 450-acre grounds are stunning; the birdlife is amongst the best on the island; it is situated in a beautiful Caribbean bay with lovely sandy beach and safe swimming and boasts some of the best snorkelling on the island.
It is terribly sad that this hotel has been so mis-managed. How does it survive? A few diehards return year after year. I was one of these - until the early '90s when standards dropped below acceptable levels. Sadly the hotel is now simply an embarassment to the local hospitality industry. Non-residents visiting the beach quickly realise the hotel's attitude and philosophy when they visit the hotel's beach or main bar - the most expensive drinks on Tobago. In fact you can pay less in a top London hotel.

Blue Haven Hotel - 55 room Hotel
The boutique-style 4+* Blue Haven Hotel reopened at the end of 2001 following a 25-year closure. Major restoration has returned the hotel to its former glory, retaining a traditional colonial style and ambiance in an attempt to recreate past glories when the hotel was a popular retreat for film stars and royalty. The Blue Haven overlooks beautiful Bacolet Bay on the Atlantic coast of Tobago, just a few miles past Scarborough.
We stayed at the Blue Haven Hotel in 2003 and again in 2007. It is undoubtedly Tobago's premier boutique luxury hotel and we can totally recommend it to those looking for the very highest standards of comfort and luxury and to those who want the particular ambience of a smaller luxury hotel.

Blue Waters Inn - 38 room Hotel
No-frills beachside 3* accommodation nestled in the total privacy of 46-acres of lush grounds in beautiful Batteaux Bay. A haven for bird watchers due to the Blue Waters Inn's proximity to the rain forest and Little Tobago. Also deservedly popular with divers, with some of Tobago's best diving on the hotel's doorstep.
The hotel won an award for Best Eco Resort for 2002 from Caribbean World Magazine.
The Blue Waters Inn is a great place to stop for refreshments while touring the north of the Island. It has long been our favourite watering hole when travelling to or from Charlotteville.
We enjoyed stays at the Blue Waters in both 2003 and 2007. Full details of our experience, and our impressions of this charming hotel, are available through the 'Review' tab at the top or bottom of the page. The Blue Waters remains one of our favourite small hotels on the island.

The Coco Reef has matured into a really top-class hotel and the increasing number of awards that the hotel now wins comes as no real surprise. As a pure holiday resort, it has no equal on the island. A great hotel offering great food, fantastic staff and a delightful beach (even if it is man-made).

Footprints Eco Resort & Spa - 9 room Hotel
Located near Culloden Bay on the northern Caribbean coast, the 62-acre Footprints Eco Resort claims to be in a designated nature preserve.
A commendable project that could have been exactly what Tobago needed and the public wanted, Footprints appears to have suffered from poor funding and is sure to fail without a major cash injection. I have called in to view the place a couple of times and am saddened to see even more signs of neglect each time I visit. The last time I called, I wandered around the place, including the main restaurant and bar buildings, for more than 10 minutes and couldn't find a sole. I left feeling that the place had been deserted.

Grafton Beach Resort - 106 room Hotel
The 3* Grafton Beach Resort shares some facilities with more upmarket sister-hotel, Le Grand Courlan Resort & Spa. A somewhat sprawling complex of multi-level buildings, but set on a beautiful hillside location. Extensive refurbishment and management changes have been undertaken in recent years and this All-Inclusive resort is now looking very smart and represents an excellent choice for anyone wanting a full-facility All-Inclusive resort on Tobago. We think the Grafton is now the best 'family' hotel on the island, with extensive and increasing facilities for youngsters of all ages. The Grafton Beach Resort is located at Stonehaven Bay on the beautiful hilly north-western coast. Being set on a hillside, the steps down to the beach might pose a problem to anyone with walking difficulties, but will not be noticed by anyone else.

Le Grand Courlan Spa Resort - 85 room Hotel
Set in a beautiful location, the 4* Le Grand Courlan has a loyal following. The hotel shares some facilities with adjacent (more modest) sister-hotel the Grafton Beach Resort.
This hotel undoubtedly has the best spa and gym facilities on the island and adopted an adults-only policy (no under-16s) from December 2003. Le Grand Courlan Spa Resort is located at Stonehaven Bay, where the island starts to become hillier and much more beautiful than the flat south-western Crown Point area.

Mount Irvine Bay Hotel & Golf - 104 room Hotel
The Mount Irvine Bay Hotel & Golf Club offered the leading accommodation on the island for the best part of 25 years. Sadly a change of ownership and policy has resulted in the steady demise of the island's best hotel.
The old Colonial style of the hotel will not suite everyone. The biggest problem is an apparent constant reduction in service levels (such as the closure or limited opening of some of the hotel's restaurants and bars). Occupancy levels are so low that you are likely to have the hotel to yourself. This creates a very strange atmosphere that many will find unsettling. For these reasons, we feel unable to include the hotel in our 'Recommended' list any longer.

Sandy Point Beach Club - 40 room Hotel
The Sandy Point Beach Club is primarily a timeshare club, but does offer rental of vacant apartments. The property is located at Sandy Point, right next to the airport.
Visitor comments about the Sandy Point Beach Club have been extremely complimentary and any concerns about noise due to the proximity to the airport can be almost totally dismissed. The club offers a daily shuttle service to Pigeon Point and Mount Irvine beaches.
The Sandy Point Beach Club should NOT be confused with the adjacent Sandy Point Village hotel which suffers from a very poor reputation.

Located on the seafront, within a 5-minute walk of the airport and close to Store Bay, the Tropikist Beach Hotel provides basic accommodation in a three-story complex of buildings. The small beach outside the hotel is not suitable for swimming.
The Tropikist has suffered from a very poor reputation for many years but there are some indications that it might be getting its act together at last. Recent visitor reports have been much more positive and we have heard none of the horrendous stories of old. We understand that the hotel is under new management and, if so, we wish them well."

VHL Tobago Golf & Spa Resort - 200 room Hotel
Tobago's largest hotel traded as the Hilton Tobago Golf & Spa Resort until May 2008, after which it became known as the VHL Tobago Golf & Spa Resort. The hotel has all the bells and whistles, but is sadly located on a particularly exposed and windswept stretch of Little Rockley Bay on Tobago’s Atlantic coast.
The good news is that in February 2008 the T&T government announced a grant of TT$45 million towards restoration of the hotel. The bad news is that there will inevitably be uncertainty about the future of the hotel until new operators have been appointed and the restoration work completed. We wish the hotel every success.
UPDATE SEPTEMBER 2008
Manor renovations are scheduled to take place from the beginning of November 2008 and are expected to last until April 2009. The VHL are not accepting new reservations until further notice. Current reservations up until the end of October 2008 are being honoured.
