Arnos Vale Hotel Arnos Vale Tel: 639-2881 Dinner in the 'Plantation House' and lunch buffet at the beach restaurant. Quality and service are highly erratic and recent reports have been far more negative than positive. Very high prices. | ![]() |
Arnos Vale Waterwheel Franklyn Road, Arnos Vale Estate Tel: 660-0815 Romantic (some say spooky) location. Another classic Tobago wasted opportunity. Cuisine can vary from good to atrocious, allegedly depending upon the 'mood' of the manager (the son of the owners of the Arnos Vale Hotel). May be open, may not be - even if you've made a booking. No alternatives nearby, so best avoided. | ![]() |
Caribbean Choula Shirvan Road, Mount Pleasant Tel: 631-0121 Curry house. Located above Melange and under same ownership and management. Takeaways from 2pm. Dinner from 6:30pm. Having ordered and waited 15 minutes for a takeaway, I was invited to sit at a table. Reminding them that I had ordered a take-away, I was told they had no take-away containers and would have to eat the meal there. Unbelievable! Frankly no more than I have come to expect from this outfit. We shan't return. | ![]() |
Fish Pot Pleasant Prospect Tel: 635-1728 The Fish Pot is a new restaurant at Pleasant Prospect (next to Marie's Place) managed by 'Irish' and Erica Vaughan, previously of Indigo (now closed). The restaurant is open for lunch Monday to Friday and on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evenings for dinner. Early reports are very positive and indicate that the simple well-cooked fare is excellent value. | ![]() |
La Tartaruga Buccoo Village Tel: 639-0940 Italian cuisine. Great dining with excellent wines, hosted by a highly entertaining owner. Full à la carte menu with appetizers from TT$25 and main courses from TT$55. The 250+ Italian wines are the restaurant's real strength. Open Monday to Saturday (closed Sunday) from 6:30-10:00pm. Website: www.latartarugatobago.com | ![]() |
Me-Shells Shirvan Road, Mt Pleasant Tel: 631-0353 Me Shells has never enjoyed the best of reputations but hearing positive comment from several people during our 2008 trip, we decided to give it a try. What a pleasant surprise. We went back twice more during our visit and enjoyed every meal. Wide menu. Not cheap. Well worth trying. Open Monday to Saturday, 6pm to 10pm. | ![]() |
Melange Shirvan Road, Mount Pleasant Tel: 631-0121 Average catering. Nicely presented, but everything rather pretentious. Menu prices on the high side. Extortionate prices for truly awful plonk. It is clear that nobody at the restaurant knows the first thing about wine. Attractive building in lovely garden but mossies are said to be a problem during the wet season. | ![]() |
Mot Mot Restaurant Auchenskeoch Road, Grange Local restaurant, located between Buccoo Junction and Carnbee. Unpretentious Creole-fusion catering. Pleasant atmosphere. Large cocktail selection. During the past two years, this pleasant little restaurant has become one of most favoured restaurants on Tobago. Has never let us down and you never leave feeling you've paid over-the-odds for a mediocre evening, as at most other restaurants. | ![]() |
Patino's Courtyard Cafe Shirvan Road, Buccoo Tel: 639-9481 General reports are very mixed. Service can be slow and unfriendly and ambience poor as the restaurant is often empty. The included service charge covers "silverware, linen and glasses" and staff gratuities are not included. Open every day from 6pm. Website: www.enchantedwaterstobago.com | ![]() |
Pavillion Restaurant Villas at Stonehaven, Grafton Tel: 639-0361 Lovely setting overlooking Stonehaven Bay. Excellent international cuisine and wine. Somewhat expensive for Tobago, but general consensus appears to be that it is worth it. One report indicates no vegetarian dishes. Website: www.stonehavenvillas.com | ![]() |
Ru-B-Lou's Shirvan Road, Mt.Pleasant Tel: 639-8046 One of our favourites. Friendly service, reasonable prices. Standards of cuisine spoiled by the use of frozen vegetables, which are almost a signature theme of the restaurant. Mosquitoes can be a bit of a problem, so spray well.Closed Tuesdays. | ![]() |
Seahorse Inn Old Grafton Beach Road, Grafton Tel: 639-0686 Once regarded as the 'best' restaurant on the island. Sadly the restaurant only performs well when the owners are present, which is increasingly less often these days. Romantic beachside setting. Reservations essential for dinner. Open Every Day. Breakfast 8-10:45am, Lunch noon-3:30pm, Dinner 6:30-10pm. Website: www.seahorseinntobago.com | ![]() |
Shirvan Watermill Shirvan Road, Mount Pleasant Tel: 639-0000 Expensive - many even say over-priced. Food can be great, but quality highly inconsistent and can suffer badly when the restaurant is busy. Interesting setting. Open every day from 5pm. | ![]() |
Buccaneer's Beach Bar Grafton Beach, Stonehaven Bay This beach bar/restaurant belongs to the Grafton Beach Hotel and Le Grand Courlan, but is open to non-residents for daytime drinks and light meals. | ![]() |
Cocrico Inn Arnos Vale Road, Plymouth Tel: 639-1476 Reasonably priced, mainly Creole, meals. Some very negative reports. | ![]() |
Fad's Homestyle Shelbourne Street, Plymouth A small buffet-style local restaurant, open for lunch, that serves authentic local dishes. Initial reports are very encouraging. | ![]() |
Good Times Bar Buccoo Road, Carnbee Reasonable local luncheons and light snacks in the evening. | ![]() |
Harlequin Pleasant Prospect A small and casual semi-outdoors restaurant located on the 'triangle' at Pleasant Prospect, at the bottom of the hill leading up to the Sanctuary Villa Resort. We didn't get the chance to try it during our last visit, but passed several times and were impressed by the apparent atmosphere created by its small external courtyard and atmospheric lighting. | ![]() |
Late Comers Bar Pleasant Prospect Located above Marie's Place and Pizza Boys at Pleasant Prospect. Family run with good service. Can have a very good local atmosphere. | ![]() |
Pahjoe's Restaurant & Bar Arnos Vale Road, Plymouth To be found on the main Black Rock to Arnos Vale Road in Plymouth. Small friendly local bar with light meals/snacks. Closed in 2004 but re-opening in March 2005. Was previously known as the Aquarius Bar, but owner hadn't thought of a name for it when I called two weeks before opening. Will be serving local delicacies. | ![]() |
Papillon Chinese Restaurant Auchenskeoch Road, Grange Tel: 639-9941 A small Chinese restaurant offering both an eat-in and take-away service. Far from the excellent standards of the best Peking and Chinese fare available in the UK, but a useful facility for villa-dwellers in the Mount Irvine area. | ![]() |
Peter's Restaurant & Bar North Street, Plymouth Tel: 639-1406 Peter's Restaurant & Bar is located on the Plymouth headland, near the sport field/jazz festival. Owner Eddy is a delightful gentleman and previously a chef at the Arnos Vale hotel. The premises are very unprepossessing and don’t be put off by the unlit entrance past Eddy’s bungalow and into the restaurant in his back yard. Worth a try! | ![]() |
Surfers Restaurant & Bar Mount Irvine Beach Facilities Useful light lunch spot, specialising in Bake & Fish, burgers, etc. | ![]() |
The Gardens Shirvan Road, Mount Pleasant The Gardens, previous known as D'Alternative is a new bar and restaurant in the premises previously occupied for a year or so by Cafe Petunia and before that by Lush disco and the The Starting Gate. We have no further details, but let's hope that The Gardens lasts longer than the others. | ![]() |
Pizza Boys Pleasant Prospect Take away pizzas. I once said that the best thing about this establishment is the ABM cash dispenser immediately adjacent. Positive reviews from some readers persuaded me to try it again in 2005, 2006 and 2007 and confess that quality had improved considerably - in fact the TT$40 medium Hawaiian was both great value and tasty. | ![]() |
