Lippy Lodge Villa - Review Page 1
Reviewed by Steve & Jill Wooler in March 2006
Lippy Lodge Villa is a fully air-conditioned vacation villa located on the popular and expanding Bon Accord villa development. Crown Point International airport is less than a 5-minutes away.
Featuring four en suite bedrooms, the villa can accommodate a maximum of ten people in fine comfort. The two inter-connecting bedrooms on the ground floor have their own kitchenette and an extra pair of bunk beds. Each floor of the house thus represents a self-contained two-bedroom unit. At quieter times of the year, smaller parties can rent just the upper or lower floor. However, it should be noted that the two floors would never both be rented out to different parties at the same time, to ensure everyone’s privacy.
The villa has an attractive kidney-shaped swimming pool and is set in mature and reasonably private gardens. It is just a five-minute walk to the start of the Pigeon Point peninsula and its white sand beaches.
Location
Every visitor to Tobago will have noticed the Bon Accord villa development. After leaving the untidy sprawl of the airport, the road passes the Coco Reef Resort hotel and then makes a sharp turn right at the junction with Pigeon Point Road. You are now on the Milford Road: the main road to Scarborough (and everywhere else). Within a few hundred yards you will notice the impressive new villas on the left. Take the first turning, opposite the highly popular and thoroughly recommended House of Pancakes, and you enter the popular Bon Accord villa development.
Some properties on the development are holiday rental properties (either investment or holiday home); others are the homes of local professional and business people. The villas are considerably more impressive than the roads connecting them but, nevertheless, the development has an up-market feel of quiet calm.
Lippy Lodge Villa is within walking distance of a number of beaches, restaurants, mini-marts and small shops. However, as in all our reviews, we must stress that your own transport is advisable if you are to get the best out of Tobago. Walking in the heat of the sun is no joy when carrying bags of groceries. Why make your holiday hard work?
The south-western coral-bed ‘lowlands’ of Tobago may not be the island’s most beautiful area, but they are undoubtedly the most popular in terms of general facilities. With your own transport, nearly every good Tobagonian restaurant is within a ten-minute drive of Lippy Lodge. The island biggest supermarket is just three or four minutes away; a wide choice of beautiful and safe Caribbean beaches within fifteen minutes (the most popular beaches, Pigeon Point and Store Bay, are less than five minutes away). Both of the island’s golf courses are within 10-minutes. You are further ideally located to tour every part of this beautiful island.
Architecture
Lippy Lodge is a fairly conventional rendered 1997-built concrete two-storey building in typical Caribbean style, with deep roof overhang shading the wrap-around verandas. Tall mature
trees provide shade and shield the building from the worst of the afternoon sun. Despite not having sea views and being technically on the Caribbean side of the island, the property is also very close to the Atlantic coast and therefore benefits from the north-east trade winds that fan the flat south-western end of Tobago after being cooled by thousands of miles of Atlantic Ocean.
A wide external staircase with handrails leads from the ground floor to the main living area on the first floor. These stairs would prove a problem to wheelchair users and people with mobility problems. However, the two rooms on the ground floor pose no such problem. Although the property is not specifically fitted out for those with disabilities, Lippy Lodge could be worthy of consideration.
