Sailing & Watersports : Introduction

A guide to recreational sailing and water-based excursions and activities around Tobago

Sailing in Tobago

Whatever your level of experience, sailing and water-based activities can be fun and exhilarating in Tobago. The classic Caribbean ingredients of warm clear water, secluded bays and fantastic snorkelling, with predictable trade winds, make Tobago a great destination for those who yearn for the sea and like to get salty!

During the second week of May each year, Tobago hosts The Angostura Yachting World Tobago Race Week. The event is normally based in the grounds of The Crown Point Beach Hotel overlooking Store Bay. You are guaranteed to have fun in the Regatta Village - day, afternoon and night.

Our first sailing article is for those visitors who want to experience the exhilaration of a sailing or power boat tour along Tobago’s beautiful green coastline. The second article is for those who prefer a more hands-on approach and would like to hire a small sailing craft or participate in other water-based activities such as kayaking. The third article is for boat owners who are considering a visit to Tobago. This article is followed by another with a few things that yachties should know about weather, sailing conditions and navigation around Tobago's waters.
